This summer has likely been different for many of us, and for RMB Dance it saw the launch of our first ever dance camps! Camps ran for the first two weeks of the holidays, and originally I assumed that would be it. However, those two weeks were such a huge success that I then decided to add in an extra 3-day camp in early August!
Camps were attended by several of our children who attend classes, but it was also lovely to welcome some new faces too. We packed our days with dancing, games, arts and crafts, and a host of ‘special activities' ranging from mega obstacle courses and gymnastics workshops to balloon parties and treasure hunts!
I must mention our lovely venue the Crags Centre, which provided a safe and welcoming environment. Also, I'm incredibly grateful to all the parents/ guardians for following all of the Covid procedures to ensure camps ran smoothly and safely.
Ahead of camp, the biggest challenge for me was working out how to showcase what we'd been up to. Although we weren't able to have a live performance, I still really wanted the children to have the opportunity to show what they'd learnt at camp and perform their dance routines, to give them a sense of pride and achievement. In the end the solution was to put together a video that was sent out to parents/ guardians at the end of the week, which turned out to be very successful with lots of positive feedback:
"Thank you so much....The children all look like they are having the best time!"
"My son loved the camp and had a ball!"
"Thanks so much - it's great to see what they've been up to!"
My main aim for camp was to provide a happy, safe environment which used dance as a basis for children to have fun, express themselves and develop friendships. I really do feel we achieved it. I’m already thinking ahead to future holidays, so do keep an eye on the website!
