As I write today's blog post, our show is just over a week away! Although we've been working towards this for several months, the day now seems to be coming around so quickly!
This is going to be our busiest show day yet, with 55 children taking to the stage on Saturday; quite a step up from the 27 who performed in our first show in 2023!
I love that many of the same children who performed then will be performing for their third show next week. It's wonderful to follow their dance journey and see their continued commitment to RMB Dance! I think it's something that they're proud of too. They still talk about that first show, and all the things they can do now compared to back then!
Many of our dancers, and their families, have been telling me how much they're looking forward to the show! The final result is what the audience love to see, and it's the children's chance to enjoy the fruits of their labour. I suppose it's a bit different for me! Whilst I love seeing the final result and the audience's enjoyment, for me the pride comes not just from the children’s performance on the day but more significantly their journey to get to that point.
I've watched them go from the very beginning, learning new moves and routines from scratch, to developing into confident performers who are excited to step on stage. From telling me they're not going to be able to do those moves, that they're too difficult, to doing them with ease. Watching them learn how to collaborate with each other, figuring out how to put their ideas together to create their own routines. For me, the process is what it's all about.
The knowledge that this show is going to help CHAS is our biggest motivation. One of our dancers said to me recently: "Rachel, it's nice how we're doing something fun and it helps other children." I'd say that pretty much sums it up.
Let's go team... "Let's Dance!"
