* Frequently Asked Questions *
Where are classes and what age are they for?
All our classes take place in the studio at the Crags Centre (EH8). The exception is our Adult Classes which take place online! I have lots on offer for age 3 upwards. You can see our full schedule via the link at the bottom of this page.
How much do classes cost?
Classes cost £5 per class. I aim for my classes to be accessible, so this is on the lower end of the scale of dance class providers in Edinburgh.
How do I pay for classes?
Payment is made online via Class4Kids. Classes run in term blocks, typically in line with the school terms. The cost of each block depends on how many classes are in that term, so it can vary slightly from one term to the next. For example, an 8-week term would cost £40.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes! Several of our dancers take more than one class per week, so I offer a 10% discount for 2 weekly classes, and a 20% for 3 weekly classes. I also offer a 10% sibling discount.
Do many boys attend RMB Dance classes?
YES! We have boys across all our age groups. In total at present, around a third of our students are boys!
Do you take part in competitions?
No, we are a non-competitive dance school. Our focus is on enjoying dancing together without the pressure of competition.
Do the children do performances?
Yes! Up to now we've performed 2 not-for-profit charity showcases, raising just under £2,500 in total for 2 Edinburgh charities.
We also do in-studio Class Presentations at the end of term in October and December, where the children showcase their class work to their families.
We're open to other performance opportunities in the community too - some of our dancers recently performed at Glencairn Care Home.
How many children are in a class?
I keep class sizes small, to give children the best possible opportunity to participate and express themselves. Our class sizes are a maximum of 8 for Pre-school, and 10 for all other classes.
Do I have to buy a uniform?
To keep costs down for you, we do not have a strict uniform policy. I do ask that children wear appropriate clothing for the style of dance - more details of this can be found on the 'Uniform' page on the website. For classes where some items are required (eg ballet shoes for ballet), we operate a swap shop where items are available at no cost.
Not having a strict uniform or demanding all the children look identical aligns with our ethos of encouraging individuality and self-expression.
Do you teach classes anywhere else?
Although our core classes are at the Crags, I'm keen to share our ethos and give as many people as possible the opportunity to dance. Therefore I do a considerable amount of outreach work across Edinburgh. I run nursery classes in several private nurseries during term time, and I've also teamed up with the fab charity Dads Rock.
How is RMB Dance different from other dance classes?
As a non-competitive dance school, we focus on the process and joy of dance rather than on results, and do so in a pressure-free environment. We emphasise creativity, individuality, self-confidence and expressing ourselves through dance. We're a wonderfully diverse community of people who just love dancing together!
I'd say what makes us particularly unique is the Colour Awards Progress Programme that our dancers work through. This is a completely unique programme (designed by me) and our dancers love it!
Can I trial class first?
Yes, you can book a trial for any of our classes! After that, you can sign up for the rest of the block if you wish. Best of all, the trial class is FREE! You can book into any of our classes here:
