It’s been a busy few weeks at RMB Dance, settling back into classes after the summer holidays. This term has also seen the launch of our brand-new Modern Ballet class!
Classical ballet is the dance style in which I've had the most years of training, starting at the age of 6! I had the fantastic opportunity of furthering my training at the Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre, after successfully auditioning at age 12, and attended classes there for 6 years. I’ve taken numerous exams including RAD Grade 7 and Advanced 1.
I love the precise, elegant technique of classical ballet and have learnt many valuable life lessons from my training, including respect, perseverance and discipline. However, I also adore contemporary dance having studied it at degree level. I especially love its creative aspect and the freedom to experiment with different ways of moving.
So, I really wanted to teach a class where children learn the foundations of classical ballet, but also have plenty of opportunities to develop creatively, which can be lacking in more traditional ballet classes. Contemporary/ lyrical dance has so much potential for enabling children to express themselves, so I particularly want our dancers to access this element as much as possible.
Classes have been going great so far, with our dancers enthusiastically embracing all the technical exercises and creative activities! As with our Street Steppers classes, I have designed a unique progress programme for Modern Ballet which allows children to track their development and celebrate their achievements.
Our Modern Ballet classes run on Thursdays at the Crags Centre – bookings can be made through our website! We'd love to welcome some new faces!
