Dancing for joy!

We're coming to the end of another year and it's been a busy one!

We finished our year with a care home performance. This was actually a last-minute change of plan due to the cancellation of another event. So, some rapid adjustments to routines were required but our dancers smashed it. What really impressed me was their adaptability and willingness to perform. They danced with passion, care and sincerity, and how special it was to bring some dancing joy to the care home just before Christmas.

Care home performances have been a huge part of our work this year and something our dancers enjoy very much. They talk about these performances often, and relive special moments and interactions. I think that whilst they maybe don't fully appreciate quite how much of an impact they have, they do understand that they're doing something really good.

What I've learnt from taking various groups of dancers into care homes is that children can be incredibly sensitive and understanding if given the opportunity. They're naturally inquisitive too, and the act of going into a new place and dancing in the dining room of a beautiful building is quite the adventure (especially when the building involves stairs and looks like a castle)!

My mission with RMB Dance is to dance with joy, for joy, and to do good for ourselves and others, and that's why for me care home visits are so important. I'm very proud of the children for their efforts in our community performances this past year, and I've loved seeing them enjoy these opportunities. One of our dancers' parents told me that, following our performance last week, her dancer was dancing for the rest of the day including in a shopping centre!

We'll certainly be continuing this work next year, with more plans in the pipeline too. That just about brings our year to a close, with our final classes, presentations and parties happening over the next few days.

I'd like to wish all our dancers and families best wishes for the holiday season, and I look forward to making more dancing memories in 2026!
