On Sunday, I had the honour of attending the Scottish Dance Awards in Glasgow! I'm super-proud that RMB Dance was a finalist in 3 categories: 'Health and Wellbeing Award"; "Excellence in Inclusive Dance Practice"; and "Best Dance School for Community Engagement".
I attended the awards last year (as a finalist in one category), and having seen the size, strength and depth of the dance schools across the country, I went this year with zero expectations but just so grateful to be a finalist in three categories. It still feels surreal to say that we WON...
"Excellence in Inclusive Dance Practice"!!
When I started RMB Dance 5 years ago, I wanted it to be a place where everyone is welcome and where everyone has a chance to participate and express themselves. The methods I use to facilitate this have evolved over time, and I strive to ensure I'm constantly working to be as inclusive as possible. I believe that "inclusion" is something that will never stop, but instead be ever-evolving, and whilst I'm very happy with where we are right now I hope to never get complacent.
I'm hugely proud of the diverse community we have at RMB Dance. Every single child and young person is a valuable part of our dance family, and I'm so happy to be bringing this home for them. This is very much shared with all our dancers and families; without them putting their trust in me, this wouldn't be possible.
A huge well done to all the finalists and winners on Sunday! It was a wonderful evening of celebration and recognition. I'd especially like to mention my table-mates who were so supportive and encouraging. I find attending these events alone rather daunting, and their friendliness went a long way.
The focus now turns to our show this weekend, but our award may be making a little appearance at classes this week to give us a final extra boost! 🙌🏆
