A week has passed since our show, and whilst I've physically recovered (just!), I'm still processing just how fantastic our dancers were.
Don't get me wrong, I knew our dancers would dance well. We put in the work, practised routines down to the fingertip, and went over all aspects of how the show would run so that we were as prepared as possible. I think ours is a relationship based on mutual trust - I trusted them to do their best on stage and dance as a team, and they trusted me to do my best, make sure the show ran smoothly and help them where needed. And it worked.
What really impressed me, though, was their confidence and pure will. I could see it shining out of them on stage. The majority of these children are not aspiring professional dancers, but they have immense passion. Passion for dance, and for doing their best. Seeing them loving getting up on stage and showing what they love to do with their heads held high, made me feel that we've accomplished our goal.
Every single child has progressed so much over the past year; I could talk about each of them individually and how much they've achieved to lead them to give the performance they did. And the incredible, extensive feedback I've received proves it too - many audience members who attended last year's show commented on the progress. This is always what I strive for: to teach our dancers that when they have a passion for something, they can use it to develop themselves as well as to bring joy to others.
It sounds cliche but I really couldn't be prouder. The fact we danced for Richmond’s Hope made it all worthwhile - stay tuned for the amount reveal very soon!
