I'm not typically one for big birthday celebrations. Actually I’m quite happy staying inconspicuous and having a quiet day! But, I just couldn’t let RMB Dance’s first birthday go by without marking it. The truth is, I'm very proud of reaching this very special milestone and want to share our journey.
I may not remember my own first birthday, but it was a particularly significant milestone given it was the day I took my first steps! In a similar way, I feel that RMB Dance's first birthday marks a year of development, achievement, and 'steps' for moving forward.
I began RMB Dance’s journey with considerable dance teaching experience, but very little
experience in business management. Thanks to encouragement from family and friends who assured me I'd learn on the job, I decided to give it a go. A motto I live by is: “if you don’t try, you'll never know”. So I took the plunge, and was happy in the knowledge that if it didn’t work out, at least I'd tried.
But it has worked, and here we are one year later having doubled our number of weekly classes and students! Then there’s everything else in between: from launching our
progress programmes, to running holiday camps, to teaming up with Active Schools!
It absolutely would not have happened without that initial encouragement from family and friends, the support from customers, and most importantly the excitement from our dancers. Their enthusiasm throughout the year really motivated me to keep going, and inspired me with new ideas.
Sometimes I’m so focused on the future that I forget to take time to reflect on the past. Especially at the present time when we’re so determined to move forwards beyond the pandemic, we may not particularly want to look back on last year. Yet for me, it really is a year that I'm proud of and one that has developed foundations for another exciting year ahead.
That said, the journey now continues with many more exciting plans to come. Bring it on!
