Answering our dancers' questions!

Something a bit different on the blog today! I thought it would be fun to ask our dancers to write down some questions for me to answer... so here goes!

* Where did you learn to dance? *

I grew up in England, so I learnt to dance there at a fantastic dance school called Swaby Dance Centre where I learnt ballet, tap and modern. I also auditioned for the Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre and I got in, so I took weekly ballet classes there for 6 years. When I was 18, I went to study dance at university where I also did contemporary, street dance and hip hop.

* Why did you choose to dance? *

As a child, I think what I loved most about dance class was being able to express myself in a way that didn't require talking. I was a shy child (and actually still am outside of the studio!). The place I felt most confident was, and still is, the dance studio.

I also liked the structure and discipline of dance class, and the physical challenge of learning new moves.

* What's the story behind the idea for RMB Dance? *

When I first created RMB Dance, I really wanted to make a place where children can be creative and learn lots of different things through dance class. That's why we do lots of different activities where you have the chance to do your own dancing and create your own moves. I also wanted to make a dance class that is fun but where you work hard too.

Most importantly, I wanted it to be a place that welcomes everyone. Everyone at RMB Dance is different, which I love!

* How do you choose the music for classes? *

I can get my music inspiration from literally anywhere! Sometimes it's the radio, a movie, a TV advert, and a lot of the time children request music they'd like to dance to - which I love! I try to make sure the music is positive and uplifting, and I also try to include lots of different genres of music too.

Great questions from our dancers... I think there might have to be a part 2!
