With our show fast approaching, today's blog post talks about the charity we're raising money for: Simpsons Special Care Babies.
We're so excited to perform "Dance It Out" in less than 3 weeks time! From my perspective, this is another opportunity for our dancers to gain performance experience and confidence, as well as to continue learning about giving and charity, and the incredible charities that exist in Edinburgh.
The way I explain it to the children is that we're using the thing we love and share - dancing - to help others. I hope that this gives the children a positive focus point and a place to find energy and motivation from, both in rehearsals and at the show itself. I hope that rather than feeling negative pressure to perform perfectly or impress me, the children feel self-motivated to put on a great show because they know others are going to benefit.
So, our dancers are aware of the reason we're doing this. Just like last year, they've put their absolute best into rehearsals with the aim of putting on a fantastic show and raising as much as possible. I'm incredibly proud of their efforts, and unfailing persistence in practising their routines.
Simpsons Special Care Babies is an entirely voluntary-run charity, founded in Edinburgh but now working throughout the country. Their primary objective is to support premature and sick babies, and their families, who require specialist care in the Simpson Neonatal Unit. The charity aims to raise funds which are used for a variety of purposes, including: state-of-the-art equipment, research, staff training and family support. Whilst having a baby in the neonatal unit is a frightening time, the charity offers practical help, emotional support and information to help families through it.
We're living in challenging times, so rather than charging a set cost for tickets there will be a donation box at the show. Any contribution you can make will be much appreciated and all money will be donated, so we are asking our audience members to please give whatever you can.
Thank you in advance and please do visit Simpsons Special Care Babies' website to find out more about the wonderful work they do.
