Today's blog post is my most important one yet. I'm talking about the special charity we're raising money for through our upcoming show: Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
I believe dance shows are a fantastic way of raising money and giving something back, as well as being beneficial to the performers. Our dancers are not only gaining performance experience and skills, but they're also learning about giving and charity. For our first show, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity was for me an obvious choice.
Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity exists to support poorly children and their families. They provide arts activities, youth work, family support and play initiatives. As well, the charity supports the hospital by transforming intimidating clinical areas into bright, welcoming spaces, as well as funding equipment, training and research.
Going into hospital can be scary for anyone, not least children, so this support is vital. Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity helps children be children, emphasising "child first, patient second". A particular concern children might have during a hospital stay is missing the outside world and not being able to do the things they enjoy. The charity does so much to provide entertainment, distractions and a listening ear.
All of our dancers are aware of the reason for our showcase, and are determined to try their very best to put on a super show and raise as much money as possible. Some of our dancers have first-hand experience of the amazing work the charity does. I have been so proud of the children who have shared in class with myself and their dance friends their stories and experiences.
We are living in a difficult time, so rather than charging a set cost for tickets there will be a donation bucket at the show. Any contribution you can make will be much appreciated and all money will be donated, so we are asking our audience members to please give whatever you can.
