I always enjoy running our holiday camps, and our recent 3-day Junior Camp was no different!
Running during the second week of the Easter holidays, our fully-booked camp welcomed back lots of familiar faces. One of the reasons I keep camps (and classes for that matter) to a small number is to create a close-knit community environment, that is not overwhelming, in which the children feel comfortable to completely be themselves as well as really develop relationships with others. I certainly saw evidence of that at camp, with the children forming such lovely friendships.
The children and I agreed that camp days just seemed to fly by as we packed so much in. I always try to plan camp days so that the children are of course having fun, but also developing valuable skills and hopefully trying out activities they've never done before. A very popular favourite this week was acro-dance, with the children using strength and teamwork to create some excellent balances and positions in small groups.
As busy as it is to organise and run camps, it doesn't feel at all like "work" for me, as the children are such a joy and always make it fun for me too!
There were some sad faces at home time on the third and final day that camp had come to an end. I liked some of the children's suggestions that instead of going home we should quite literally "camp" in the studio for ever-more!
Whilst we can't quite stretch to that, we can look forward to our next camps in the summer, with lots of dates on offer and open for booking now!
